The right sailing accessories are crucial for the performance of a sailing boat. The comfortable operation of the rig and sails also depends largely on practical equipment. Thanks to computer-controlled cutting, high-quality sails for dinghies and yachts can be supplied ready-made, for example sails for 420s, 470s or opti-sails. With spinnakers, gennakers, blisters and high wind sails, the sail wardrobe can be further expanded in order to be able to set the optimum sail in all wind conditions. Special storm sails and high wind sails are made of heavier sailcloth and are usually set with bronze or stainless steel stays on a forestay.

Just like mast slides for the mainsail, staysails must be made of solid materials to ensure that they function reliably even under load. Foresail booms such as spinnaker poles and gennaker poles are available in various designs. Telescopic booms can be used in a variety of ways, including for furling sails. Deck fittings for trimming the sails can often be retrofitted if they were not installed at the shipyard. Additional winches, travellers, adjustable genoa sliders, clamps or eye plates for shackles and blocks optimise the guidance of the running rigging for adjusting the sails. The rigging must be dimensioned according to the size of the sail and yacht.

State-of-the-art sheets and halyards made of high-strength synthetic fibres sometimes have an enormous breaking load at the lowest possible weight. The cross-section can therefore be smaller than with normal cordage material. Halyards should be low-stretch, and sheets should be able to absorb peak loads by stretching. Boat accessories should always include the right products for sail care. Special sail cleaners and fabric cleaners are gentle on the sail cloth and protect it from UV radiation and moisture. Aggressive and abrasive household products should be avoided as they can damage the finish of sails and sprayhood fabrics. Sufficient ventilation of the boat must be ensured, especially when sails are stowed below deck. Solar-powered fans, classic Dorade fans or electric fans provide effective ventilation to reduce humidity in the boat.

If you spend a lot of time travelling in southern areas such as the Mediterranean, you will need to buy other useful sailing accessories. These include anchors and anchor winches in particular, which make it possible to lie free in bays. A stable bathing ladder must also be on board, either attached or permanently mounted. Inflatable boats are mandatory for going ashore, preferably with an inflatable keel or solid bottom. Whether in the north or the south, harbours are becoming increasingly crowded. That's why sufficient and sufficiently large fenders protect against unwelcome damage to the hull during mooring and casting off manoeuvres. Compass24 offers sensible and practical sailing accessories in high brand quality and a huge selection.
