High humidity is generated on yachts and boats during the winter. Condensers are expensive. Dehumidifiers for yachts and boats work in a similar way to the devices used for burst water pipes in buildings. Most work on a granulate basis, i.e. without batteries or electricity. This makes these room dryers efficient, environmentally friendly and sustainable. The granulate absorbs the moisture and is then disposed of. Various designs are available for this purpose.

What types of air dryers are available for yachts and boats?

Almost all dehumidifiers for boats and yachts contain filters and granulate. Which type of air dryer is chosen depends primarily on the size of the room in question. This means that mould, bad odours and the like no longer stand a chance on your boat or yacht! Some room dryers are even available for cupboards (clothes, shoes, towels). So-called wardrobe dehumidifiers are simply hung in the wardrobe. The granulate in the upper chamber of the dehumidifier absorbs the moisture and then drains into the lower chamber. The entire cabinet dehumidifier can then be disposed of.

Room dehumidifiers purely for the rooms on your yacht or boat ensure that moisture cannot accumulate in the corners of the room or in wooden benches or on textiles. The service life is 4 to 12 weeks. Refill packs should always be in stock.

How should the appliances be maintained?

The electrical system of electric dehumidifiers must be checked once a year and the filters replaced regularly. If the filters are not replaced, they are harmful to health as bacteria and fungi accumulate. Mini dehumidifiers are used in a boat or yacht when there is little or infrequent humidity. Boats and yachts are not used in winter. Therefore, air dryers or electric dehumidifiers are also worthwhile for the engine room and galley during this time. This is where vulnerable equipment is located that needs to be protected from moisture. When the boat is in use or when it is warmer, the boat ventilation is on and hatches and bulkheads are opened more often. Fans are also switched on when the boat is underway. This is not necessary during the bad season. This is why electric dehumidifiers are also very useful. Mini dehumidifiers are suitable for small cabins or individual areas. It is always worth having refill packs or replacement filters to hand.

What are the advantages of room dehumidifiers and dehumidifiers?

Your boat or yacht is protected from mould infestation. Clothing and home textiles (mats, bath towels, etc.) no longer smell musty thanks to dehumidifiers. Wooden furniture does not break down so quickly. The room dryer ensures healthy breathing air. You save a lot of money on new purchases or disposal costs. Moisture is fatal for electrical devices on board. So this investment pays off in any case, but at the latest at the next maintenance of the on-board technology or electrical appliances in the cabins, the galley or the engine room.
