AIS Devices
The AIS transponder coupled with the GPS is an important signal transmitter for your yacht, sports boat or sailboat. The transponder is equipped with an AIS transmitter and an AIS receiver. The transmitted and received signals enable you to detect all ship movements in good time and dangerous approaches and collisions can thus be prevented. The signals are displayed on chart plotters, radar screens, multifunction displays or PC monitors.
The transponder sends to the AIS receivers of other ships, among other things, the exact position of the ship as well as the speed and course. The movement behaviour is also displayed. Static data such as the ship's name, international radio call sign (MMSI) as well as the ship's type and dimensions are also shown on the display.
The receivers are divided into two different classes for marine use
The AIS transponders are divided into Class A and Class B for commercial and recreational shipping. Class A transponders are internationally mandatory for vessels when the gross tonnage (GT) is higher than 300. The receivers have a higher VHF signal strength and thus a much greater range. In addition, the signals from the Class A receivers are transmitted more often, as the ships travel at higher speeds. Class B receivers operate with a lower signal strength and also have a lower reporting rate. They can be used in recreational shipping, but are not permitted in commercial shipping.
More safety at sea by using an AIS transponder
If you are sailing your yacht or recreational boat on the high seas, inland lakes or on rivers, you should definitely equip yourself with a Class A or Class B AIS transponder. The GPS-linked transponders from Navico, Digital Yacht or Raymarine are for your safety on all voyages.
