The worth seeing Cap de Creus, a peninsula of bizarre rock formations of the Pyrenean foothills, juts approx. 10 km into the sea and entices with countless bays. Before reaching the French coast, you can moor in the tranquil Port de la Selva. On the French side, the harbour town of Sète, which is about 30 km southwest of Montpellier, is known as Little Venice. There are several large ports, such as Port Camargue, Port-St-Louis-du-Rhône, Port de Martigues and Port Carry le Rouet, until you reach historic Marseille. A mooring in the Vieux Port of Marseille is recommended, as this port already existed in antiquity. A visit to the Frioulen Islands off the coast of Marseille is also worthwhile. The charming town of Cassis is worth a stopover, with the Calanque de Port Miou, a lookout point above the small harbour, inviting you to take a break.
