Hempel Mille NCT Antifouling
Hempel Mille NCT Antifouling is a high-performance, self-polishing solution specially developed for the protection of boats. Thanks to Hempel's patented binder technology, it offers excellent fouling protection and colour stability throughout the season.
Application areas
- Suitable for boats made of GRP, wood, steel and aluminium (aluminium hulls must be suitably primed).
Surface pre-treatment
A thorough cleaning is required before application:
- Remove salts, cleaning agents, dirt and marine growth with high-pressure fresh water.
New construction
- Uncoated surface: Prime with Hempel's Light Primer and then apply Hempel's Underwater Primer while the surface is still tacky.
- Alternatively: Prime with Hempel's Premium Primer and apply a coat of Hempel's Pro Tiecoat.
Maintenance and repairs
- Old antifouling: Remove loose material and contamination with a high-pressure cleaner.
- If the old layer is in poor condition: Remove previous layers and prime the surface before applying the antifouling.
- If the coat is poor: Seal with a coat of Hempel's Underwater Primer or use Hempel's Pro Tiecoat.
Application instructions
- Thinner: Hempel's Thinner 08080.
- Cleaner: Hempel's Thinner 08080 and Hempel's Thinner 808 08081.
- Application method: Brush/roller or paint pad with maximum 5% thinner.
- At speeds above 20 knots: 3 coats of antifouling are recommended.
Film thickness and coverage
- Recommended dry film thickness: 40 microns [1.6 mils].
- Wet film thickness: 68 microns [2.7 mils].
- Theoretical coverage: 15 m²/L [611 sq ft/US gal].
Application conditions
- Apply to a clean and dry surface that is more than 3°C [5°F] above the dew point.
- Keep relative humidity below 85% during application.
Important notes
- Antifouling with copper content must not come into electrical contact with aluminium hulls and other aluminium components.
- Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and face and eye protection during application.
