Karabiners

Top-Seller

Carabiners are used for many water sports and leisure activities, especially sailing, mountaineering and paragliding. Carabiners are sturdy hooks with a clasp that can be opened and closed quickly. The fasteners usually have a spring or snap mechanism that allows lines, for example, to be attached easily and directly. High-quality carabiners are therefore part of personal safety equipment, especially for sailors. Snap hooks are used to attach lifebelts and safety harnesses to life jackets and deck fittings.

Carabiners sold in Europe must be certified in accordance with European standards and fulfil DIN regulations if they are part of personal protective equipment. For use in water sports, carabiners are usually made of stainless steel, also known as Niro and V4A. Only high-quality stainless steel offers sufficient protection against dangerous corrosion under salt water conditions.

For flying and mountaineering, carabiners are mainly made of solid aluminium due to their lower weight. The material quality and shape of the carabiner must be high-strength in order to guarantee the required breaking load, and the dimensions in terms of strength and size must be appropriate for the application, with sufficient safety reserve. Snap hooks are available in a curved symmetrical shape or asymmetrical, where the larger jaw width offers more fastening options. Carabiners with a closed eye have a pressed-in thimble or eye into which ropes or wire rope can be securely knotted or spliced.

Normal carabiners such as simple snap hooks have no protection against unintentional opening; carabiners with a screw lock or sliding sleeve offer more security. The spring clip is additionally secured with a union nut. Carabiners are available in a wide variety of designs, with a rotating swivel or as a double carabiner for quickly connecting two ends. The Compass online shop at Compass24 offers high-quality carabiners for all water sports applications.
